Bidar: Seven killed in road accident

Seven persons were killed, and nine others injured in a road accident on the early hours of Wednesday.

The accident occurred when a speeding jeep and a lorry collided head-on near the Hanuman Temple on the Bidar-Hyderabad road, on the outskirts of Bidar city.

The passengers in the jeep were returning from Hyderabad after attending an engagement, said the police.

Six of the victims died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Arjun (32), the driver of the jeep; Nirmala Shivaji (28) and her husband Maruti Shivaji (30), Parvathi Nagaiahswamy (30), Laxmi (45), Mallappa Laxman (29) and Radha.

All  of them are said to have been residents of Ucha village, Bhalki taluk in the district.
The driver of the lorry is absconding. Police have registered a case, and investigation is on.
