Last Updated 03 May 2018, 05:09 IST

The first markets would begin in India's northeastern state of Tripura that has proposed seven locations.Visiting Tripura Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Forest Jitendra Chowdhury told Bangladesh Commerce Minister Faruk Khan that the state government had sought clearance from the central government in New Delhi.

"We are also ready to supply surplus electricity to Bangladesh," Chowdhury said, referring to the 750 MW power plant that is being planned at Palatona in Tripura, for which Bangladesh and India are making a joint effort.

The Bangladesh government earlier this month gave permission to Indian authorities to transport heavy equipment required for the power plant.

Khan said that after assessing the performance of the initial border haats at two places in February 2011, 10-15 more markets along the border might get the nod in future, New Age reported Wednesday.
