‘D Female Gaze’

D Female Gaze (before the canvas series – small format), a journey of a woman in the very perception of life and familial responsibilities, by four female artists — Anupam Sud, Arpita Singh, Anjolie Ela Menon and Rekha Rodwittya — will be on till December 30 at Apparao Gallery, St Mark’s Road.

Rare photos

Tasveer and Magnum Photos, in association with Ganjam, are celebrating 100 years of Hollywood with an exhibition, At the Movies — Magnum Ke Tasveer at Sua House, 26/1, Kasturba Road cross till January 10 between 10 am and 7 pm. Rare pictures of yesteryear stars like Audrey Hepburn, Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elizabeth Taylor will be on display.

Solo work

Timeless Travel, a solo exhibition by Anjali Sapra, will be on display at the Mahua Gallery till December 31.

Group show

An exhibition of contemporary Indian paintings curated by Jasmine Khanna collected from different artists, established and up-and-coming titled, Commonwealth of Art  is on till December 31 at the Gallerie Third Eye near HAL Police Station, next to Logica, Yemlur Main Road, from 10 am to 6 pm.


An exhibition of paintings and sculptures will be held till January 9 at Virtuosos Art Gallery, 541, 38th Cross, 10th Main, 5th Block, Jayanagar. Paintings are by Ashwini G K, Bhanumati K L, Govardhan K, Kalidas B Sonar and sculptures are by Basavaraj S Hiregoudar, Natraj M Shilpi and Vishwaradhya S Hiremath.

Magnitude Gallery, based at 3rd Block Jayanagar, is holding Aakarshan, an exhibition of a series of original masterpieces in the genre of art based on architectural wonders. 



Neenaanaadre Naaneena, a play by Sanket, will be staged till December 24, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara.

This is a Kannada version of William Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors.

STRIKING Madhavi Mudgal and group.Shambhavi School of Dance will be holding ‘Dancejathre 2011’ on January 8 and 9 at Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road. ‘Dancejathre’ aims at providing a unique recreational experience for young Bangaloreans by exposing them to dances of the highest calibre. The event extends from dawn to dusk for an entire weekend, and has everything dance-related like performances, exhibitions, stalls, contests, workshops and open sessions. Each day will end with a grand finale of performances by artistes from across the country and the world, presenting various dance styles of both Indian and Western origin. The artistes include Kiran Subramanyam and group, Madhavi Mudgal and group, Yana Lewis Dance Company, Bharathi Shivaji and team, Vyjayanthi Kashi and group etc. 

‘Nritya Vaibhava’

Ananya is holding Nritya Vaibhava – 5 on January 2, 6 pm at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Nritya Vaibhava is a celebration of the grandeur of dance and showcases the skill and proficiency of established dancers and dance teachers.

Nritya Vaibhava-5 is a special series presenting non-resident Indian dancers while they are in India during the season to accomplish their passion.

Annual day

Layalasya School of Bharatanatyam, Basaveshwaranagar is celebrating its annual day on December 25, 6 pm to 9 pm, at Seva Sadan, 16th Cross, Malleswaram. Soujanya and Deeksha will present bharatanatyam on the occasion.


Nrityalaya Aesthetic Society will present the bharatanatyam rangapravesha of Archana Ganapathy, a disciple of Neewin Harshall, on December 26, 6 pm at JSS Auditorium, 8th Block, Jayanagar.


Thematic series

Ananya is holding Allied Ragas-8, (thematic music programme series) on ragas Mohana and Mohana Kalyani on December 26, 10 am at Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, 13th Cross, Malleswaram.

The programme will have Sukanya Prabhakar accompanied by Mysore R Dayakar and B K Chandramouli.

Eswaralaya Music Foundation is holding a music programme on December 27, 6 pm to 8 pm at Ayyappan Temple, behind Vimanapura West Primary School, inside HAL Quarters, Airport Road.  

‘Swara Naada Yaatra’

Sunaada Art Foundation, Bangalore in association with, Chandaayan School of Music, New York is presenting Swara Naada Yatra, a musical tour covering several cities across Karnataka.

This is a unique musical event, in which a tabla symphony comprising 22 noted tabla artistes from across the world and India, and four vocalists, will perform. As part of the Swara Naada Yaatra, on December 26,  6 pm, there will be a felicitation of Lalitha Ubhayekar, Shyamala G Bhave, Vinayak Torvi and Parmeshwar Hegde. At 7 pm, a vocal recital will be presented by Rajyashree Ghosh. The tabla symphony will be held at 8 pm. The venue is PESIT College Auditorium.   

‘Evening Ragas’

Classic numbers

Taal Se Taal Mila, a concert with foot-tapping numbers from Hindi films from 1951 to 2009, will be held on December 26, 5.30 pm at Ambedkar Bhavan.

Vocal concert

EXPERT AnandA grand vocal concert by B S Anand will be held at Mahati Cultural Academy, Malleswaram on December 25, 5 pm. Usha Sridhar, a designer from Chennai, is holding an exhibition, till December 26 at Canara Union, 42, 8th Main, 13th Cross, Malleswaram. The show will have a fusion of traditional and modern designs.

The range comprises saris in Kanchi silks, silk cotton, tussar, chiffon, fine handloom cotton, block prints, paintings and cut work. Kanchi silks are available in pastel shades.
