Nepal confers honorary Gen of NA to Indian Army Chief

Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav provided Gen. Singh with an insignia and citation of Nepal Army as part of the investiture ceremony.

Vice-President Parmananda Jha, Defence Minister Vidya Bhandari and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, Singh called on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and discussed matters relating to strengthening relations between the two armies.

During the meeting, Singh expressed India's security concern saying that he expects Nepal will not allow any activity directed against India from its territory.

In his response Prime Minister Nepal assured Singh that Nepal will not allow its soil to be used against any such activity, PM's Office said.

Army Chief Singh also called on Defence Minister Vidya Bhandari at her office at Singhdurbar and discussed relations between the armies of the two countries.

Earlier in the morning Singh inspected Birendra Peace Works Training Centre at Panchkhal in Kavrepalanchowk district in the east of Kathmandu.

The army chief met his Nepalese counterpart Chhatraman Singh Gurung and discussed issues of mutual interest on Tuesday. He also paid a visit to Pokhara and Mustang in western Nepal on Tuesday.

The army chief will return to India tomorrow, wrapping up his four day official visit to Nepal.

India had expressed concern over cross-border terrorist activities through Nepal, which shares nearly 1850 km open border with India.
