85 nabbed, recover property worth Rs 3.62 crore

Announcing this at press conference here today, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said the seizure included gold and platinum ornaments studded with diamonds worth Rs 2.63 crore, 6.2 kilograms of silver valued at Rs 3 lakh, cash of Rs 75,350, 13 laptops valued at Rs 4.70 lakh and 87 two-wheelers valued at Rs 35 lakh.

The detected cases include 2 cases each of dacoity and robbery, 20 cases of chain snatching, 23 cases of house-breaking, 37 cases of theft and 105 cases of motor-vehicle thefts, he said.

Important cases that were detected include nabbing of two offenders and recovery of gold, diamond and platinum jewellery worth Rs 1.9 crore by the Adugodi police.

Last month, the J P Nagar police apprehended an inter-state gang og 16 notorious criminals who used to target lonely aged ladies walking on the road under the guise of police officers and take away their gold ornaments.

In continuation of same investigation, one more member of the gang by name Mahadev Baba Saheb Shindley alias Pinto was arrested and gold ornaments worth Rs 22 lakh were seized from him, Bidari said.

Another nine-member inter-state gang of criminals which was having the same modus operandi was nabbed by the Basavanagudi police and gold ornaments worth Rs 6.4 lakh recovered from them.

Kumaraswamy Layout police nabbed a notorious vehcile offender involved in 15 cases of vehicle thefts in Mysore district and recovered 34 two-wheelers worth Rs 13,60,000 from him.

Girinagar police nabbed four HBT (House Break Theft) offenders and recovered property worth over Rs 10 lakh including one .32 revolver (made in Germany) and 11 rounds, gold ornaments worth Rs 7 lakh and silver articles worth Rs 3 lakh from them.

Commending the good work rendered by the team headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Division Sonia Narang, Bidari announced a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh.
