14 injured in Davangere group clash

A mob resorted to stone throwing as rumours spread that a group coming out of a mosque in Vinoba Nagar assaulted youth of other community.  Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse a crowd assembled near Siddivinayak temple.

A group clash ensued in which two scribes and a photographer sustained injuries. Stones were hurled on a KSRTC bus proceeding towards Harihar. Window panes of few houses in Vinoba Nagar first, second and third main roads have been damaged. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC have been clamped in the area. A scuffle had ensued between two groups during a marriage procession on December 22. Hindu organisations had staged a protest condemning the incident and six persons were arrested in this connection.

A peace meet was scheduled for Friday.
