Will hero turn Mogambo?

Anil Kapoor shaved his moustache and chest hair to play a teenage boy in Lamhe. But when it comes to going bald for Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power, the seasoned actor is in two minds.

“That’s one of the options, but I’m not quite sure about it yet,” said Anil, who played the title role in the hit sci-fi movie Mr India, where Amrish Puri sported a bald look as the iconic villain Mogambo.

Anil will be seen in a pivotal role in Santoshi’s underworld saga, which
will also star Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

Sequel time

It seems like this conman is on a roll as director Farah Khan is planning a sequel to Akshay Kumar-starrer Tees Maar Khan, which hit the screens on December 25. “When Farah and Katrina went to shoot the grand finale of Star Plus’ cookery game show MasterChef India, she was so impressed with Akshay’s hospitality that she ended up offering Tees Maar Khan 2 to the actor,” said a source. Akshay, of course, jumped at the offer!

Bappi angry over Guppy

Bappi LahiriMusic composer Bappi Lahiri has sent a legal notice to the makers of the live action animation film Toonpur Ka Superrhero for modelling a cartoon character in the film on him. The notice has been sent to the film’s director Kireet Khurana as well as producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Krishika Lulla of Eros Entertainment. Confirming the news, Khurana said, “Yes, we received the legal notice that claimed that there were similarities between Bappiji and our character Guppy. Our lawyers are working on a suitable response.”

CREATIVE The cast of Toonpur Ka Superrhero. The character Guppy, who has long hair and wears jazzy outfits, is a musician. He wears dark glasses and lots of gold chains. Lahiri says that the character is a caricature representation of him and he is not too happy about it. Khurana explained that the character has been influenced from many sources and not just one.

“We have been inspired by many sources. His clothes are like Elvis Presley, the lights on the clothes are like the ones Amitabh Bachchan wore in Yaaraana for the song Saara Zamaana. So there are many elements to his personality. If some similarities are felt then those are completely unintentional. All the characters are original and we had no intention of making a character lampooning anyone,” he said.

Toonpur Ka Superrhero has both live and animated characters. The film shows actors Ajay Devgan and Kajol entering the world of cartoons. It released on December 24.

‘Masala films are tougher to make’

Acclaimed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, best known for making period dramas like Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar, says it is challenging to make a typical Bollywood potboiler that excites the audience.

“I would love to make a glamourous movie sometime. Though those movies seem easy to make, yet it is very difficult to make them. I don’t know if I would ever make a complete mainstream film but I don’t mind making a murder mystery or a horror film,” said Gowariker. He did try his hand at commercial cinema with What’s Your Rashee?, but it failed miserably at the box office.

He returned to his trademark style with Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey and is now ready to work on Buddha.

Yet another VIP treatment

TROUBLING: MadonnaQueen of Pop Madonna enraged her first class co-passengers when she was let off their snow-stranded plane two hours before the others and added to the trouble when he started doing yoga in the aisles. Passengers on board a flight from New York became stranded on the snow-blanketed tarmac of the Heathrow Airport and were furious when the Vogue hitmaker was allowed off the plane two hours before everyone else. As blizzards brought UK’s transport system to a near standstill, Madonna and her entourage were whisked away by bus to the terminal before everyone else.

But not before she handed out some impromptu in-flight entertainment.

“It was bad enough having to wait, but then she started doing her yoga in the aisles. After about an hour, a bus came along and took her and her party of about 15 off the plane. The rest of us all had to wait for another two hours,” said a passenger on the plane. The 52-year-old flew in from New York so that she could spend Christmas with her ex-husband Guy Ritchie and their children. The 42-year-old British filmmaker and Madonna had planned to get together at their former marital home in Wiltshire, with their children Lourdes (14), Rocco (10), David (6) and Mercy (5).
