Death toll in bus-matador collision rises to 36

Two of the five persons who were seriously injured and referred to Bareilly for treatment died in the wee hours this morning, District Magistrate Amit Gupta said.

Thirty-four people were killed and 30 others injured when the matador carrying them collided with the state government bus here last evening.

Gupta said the collision took place near Annipur village on Badaun-Agra road.
Those killed included bus driver Brahm Swaroop, SP D K Chaudhary said, adding that the victims were returning after performing the last rites of their relative.

Twenty-eight persons are still undergoing treatment, police said.
The district administration had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to kin of those killed in the accident and a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the injured.
