To be held on January 8 and 9 at the Ravindra Kalakshetra, the Dance Jathre will consist of an exhibition, mela, open sessions, workshops and even recitals from the who’s who of dance.

“Dance has become such an important part of one’s life. There is so much of talent in the City but hardly any platform for it. That’s why we thought of starting the Dance Jathre. The tremendous response, that we received, only encouraged us to do it every year,” said Vyjayanthi Kashi, who initiated the two-day event back in 2008.Sindhoor, a student of Vyjayanthi, says that the weekend is aimed at providing a unique recreational experience.

“There is so much to look out for. There will be an exhibition of dance-based paintings. We are also organising a sale where one can buy items related to all forms of dance. There will also be a contest for the young choreographers of the City, who can come and showcase their talent,” she adds.

Each day will end with dance performances from artistes like Bharathi Shivaji and Group, Nritarutya, Vyjayanthi Kashi, Maulik Shah, Kiran Subramanyam, Yana Lewis Dance Company and others. “We are also planning on roping in some eminent dancers to conduct workshops where interested people can participate and interact with them,” adds Sindhoor. Held from 10 am to 9 pm, the entry for the exhibition and performances is free. However, there will be an entry fee for the workshops.

There will also be a registration fee for those interested to take part in the competition.
