Last Updated 28 December 2010, 17:23 IST

In a press release here, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Harsh Gupta has said that indelible ink will be put on the left hand finger of the voters.

The electorate have to produce any one of the documents like driving license, passport or identity card issued by any government or private companies, if they don’t have the EPIC, to exercise their franchise. The poll campaign would end on Wednesday at 7 am and outsiders have to leave villages before 5 pm.

The electoral officers have to physically check whether any outsiders are staying in kalyan mantaps, community halls in taluk and zilla panchayat limits. The list of people staying in travellers bungalow and inspection bungalows should also be checked. Besides, a tight vigil would be maintained on movement of people in each panchayat limits by opening the check posts.

The DC said campaign within 100 mtrs of the polling stations is strictly banned.
Nobody including the candidates and their party workers wearing the badges of political parties, is supposed to enter inside the polling booths. Besides, they are also not supposed to campaign for any political party.

Dry days
Gupta said there would be no sale of liquor throughout the district including the city from 7 am of December 30 up to 8 pm on December 31. All the liquor shops should be closed during this period. The parties are free to appoint their people at least 200 mtrs away from the polling station to issue unofficial identity slips to the voters. However, the slips should only contain the name of voter, roll number and the polling station number and not the name of candidate or the party symbol.

If the voters are old aged and visually impaired then they could take the assistance of any person who is below 18 years of age to exercise the franchise. The polling officer should not help such people in voting, he added.

He said there would be a public holiday on December 31 for all the State and Central government offices, banks, factories and educational institutions. But this is not applicable for the government personnel who are drawn into the poll duty.
The counting of votes would be taken in respective taluk centres on January 4 from 8 am onwards.

The results would be declared as and when the counting is over. All steps have been taken to ensure that the elections are held in a free and fair manner, the DC noted.
