Luxury hotel for gay tourists to open in Mexico

Last Updated 03 May 2018, 05:15 IST

"The hotel is uniquely for men. That is to say, only homosexual couples are accepted, it's not for women, although among our personnel we have heterosexual men and women and all have received specialised training to avoid having our guests feel uncomfortable or discriminated against," the facility's general director Patrick Lurenz told EFE Tuesday.

He said that another prohibition will be on men entering the hotel with minors.

Lurenz said that the Adonis Tulum hotel, the first establishment of its kind in the state of Quintana Roo, is now in the last phase of remodeling prior to opening its doors to guests in January.

He added that the Adonis is near the Tulum hotel zone, very close to the archaeological site of the same name and it has 94 luxury suites.

Lurenz said once it is up and running, the hotel will provide 100 direct jobs.

"It seems to me that it's positive that in Mexico there is an opening for homosexuals. Finally we're talking about human beings who pay taxes, who create companies. I hope that some day unions between same-sex couples will be a federal law and not just on the state level," he said.

In December 2009, the Mexico City legislative assembly approved same-sex unions and authorised them to be allowed to adopt children on equal terms with heterosexual couples.

The modifications pertaining to same-sex couples will enter into force March 4, although this type of initiative has not yet been undertaken by other Mexican states.
