107 candidates to vie for 29 seats

]As many as 107 ZP candidates and 161 TP candidates who are in fray will try their luck in Friday’s election which will be held in 430 polling booths. The district has 3,48,767 voting population out of whom 1,74,032 are men and 1,74,032 are women voters. Among 430 polling booths, 54 are considered as hyper sensitive booths, 84 as sensitive booths and 292 as normal booths. For the first time, the election commission has introduced EVM in TP and ZP elections.

A presiding officer, four election officers, a ‘D’ group worker along with a police have been deployed in each polling booth. A videographer has been deployed in hyper sensitive polling booths. The total number of staff deputed for the election purpose are 2,365, out of which 10 per cent of the staff have been reserved to meet emergency needs.

Tight police security
The police department has taken up all the measures for the free and fair elections in the district. The department has deployed a head constable, a constable and a home guard staff in hyper sensitive booths, while a police constable and a home guard has been deployed in the sensitive booths. In case of normal booths, a police constable has been deployed to monitor the election proceedings. A mobile sector will work for every 10 to 15 booths. As many as 430 polling booths have been divided into 38 mobile sectors. The mobile sect will visit each polling booth for every half an hour.  Each mobile sector will carry a police officer and four staffs in it.

Three DYSP, 9 CPI, 12 Supervisory Mobile units have been deployed for monitoring 38 mobile sectors. The department has formed 15 check posts in the border areas of the district to check the vehicles carrying illicit liquor, weapons and explosives.  For each taluk, one KSRP, three DAR platoons have also been reserved.

Helpline centres
24X7 helpline centres have been established in taluk and district centres which will listen to the grievances of the voters. Ban on liquor
The district administration has announced dry day on Friday till 8 pm. Liquor has been banned in all the bars, restaurants and hotel clubs today.
