Poll officers seize sarees, liquor

Following a tip-off, a team of poll personnel led by Assistant Commissioner Bharathi and Tahasildar Manjunatha Swamy raided the house of Bhyrappa, driver of Congress candidate Mahadev contesting elections from Hinkal, at Koorgalli. About 1,000 sarees and liquor worth Rs 7,000 were seized during the raid. Bhyrappa and his wife Padmamma have been arrested by the Vijayanagar police.

In another case, seven silver idols that were allegedly being distributed among the voters were recovered in Hootagalli. Basavanna and Mahadev had been distributing the idols on behalf of JD(S) candidate Suresh contesting the polls from the Hinkal seat. The police have arrested the two. The magistrate has lodged the complaints at Vijayanagar police station.
