Moily asks CBI boss to reinvestigate Aarushi murder case

Last Updated 31 December 2010, 19:08 IST

Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily called  CBI director Amar Pratap Singh to the Law Ministry to discuss the possibilities of making “further progress” in the case, two days after the agency filed a closure report in a Ghaziabad special court.

Moily said: “It is very clear that someone has killed Aarushi in a brutal way, dastardly way, I have told the CBI director to take the matter seriously. The CBI always does a perfect job. There is no question whether they did the job or not, that is not a matter of debate... I want the CBI to investigate.

“I had invited the CBI director for a thorough discussion on the Aarushi Talwar murder case. The question is whether it is a fit case for closure or can further progress be made.”

The meeting comes a day after Moily said he would have a look into the agency’s decision to file a closure report in the high-profile case. Refusing to elaborate on the various options available before the agency, Moily said he discussed the various legal parameters involved in the matter.

“Let us see how we go forward,” he said. Moily defended the CBI investigation into the matter and said nobody can question the way the agency probed it. “They have done a thorough job with utmost sincerity,” he said.

On Wednesday, the CBI told the Ghaziabad court that it wanted to end the investigation because it did not have enough evidence against anyone. It could not establish the motive for the killings and also not recover the murder weapons.
