Lodding: The latest fad among singletons!

A new survey in Britain has revealed that the surge in Internet dating has given rise to the new phenomenon, known as lodding or long-distance dating; single men and women are now prepared to travel an average of 23 miles for the first date.

The Ipsos MORI poll of 5,000 people for train journey booking website 'bestvaluefares.co.uk' also found that lodding would be on the increase in 2011, meaning more and more people will be relying on planes, trains and cars for sake of their love lives, the 'Daily Mail' reported.

Online dating has become a social phenomenon in recent years and there are now more than 1,400 UK dating sites used by nearly five million people. Around 60 per cent of single folk have tried online dating at some point and the industry is expected to be worth around 150 million pounds by 2014.

Andrew Robertson, head of marketing for bestvaluefares - which is run by the Association of Train Operating Companies - said: "Lots of single people will of course hope to find love in their home town and certainly many wouldn’t dream of looking elsewhere.

"But we've found that first-time daters seem keener now than ever before to travel greater distances if it means they might find true romance. Social media and dating websites undoubtedly played their part in helping to make the country seem smaller when it comes to looking for love.
