KLF militant's plea to be taken to Punjab by train rejected

Additional Sessions Judge M R Sethi dismissed the application of Daya Singh Lahoria saying the report of the jail authorities has raised serious apprehensions on the request.

"Report has been filed by Brahm Singh, a DCP of DAP. It is mentioned that there are inputs from Intelligence Bureau that there is high propensity to escape from custody of police during transportation and production before judicial forum in other states," the court said.

Citing the report, it said some of the associates of Daya Singh had already recceed the route.

"In view of information from intelligence agencies, production in court is made by road in association with the help of Haryana or Punjab police as the transportation by train is not safe from security and safety point of view," the court said.

The accused has to be produced in a sessions court at Ludhiana in connection with a criminal case.

Lahoria was extradited in 1997 from the US to face trials in various cases including the sensational blast at the gate of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) headquarters here in 1993 in which nine persons were killed and 29 people, including the then IYC President M S Bitta, injured.

A Delhi court, which had sent co-accused Davenderpal to the gallows in the IYC blast case, had, however, acquitted him for want of evidence in 2001.
