This was disclosed by the deputy commissioner at a meeting held here on Tuesday.
He said while protecting it as a heritage structure, it would be reserved for commercial purposes.

It would be done only after rehabilitating the existing traders who are doing business in the same building for the last so many years.

At the time of constructing this building there was no need for space for parking of vehicles. However, in the changed time, there is a need for parking place for which necessary arrangements would be done.

Gupta noted that the building is in dilapidated condition and this may post problems for traders and general public. In the wake of this, the district administration is seriously considering giving a facelift for the entire structure.

The road behind the building is very narrow and three to four traders were doing business by encroaching the space. If any four wheeler goes, no vehicle can come from the opposite direction.

There are quite a lot godowns in that building and trucks come there daily for unloading goods. If trucks are parked not a single vehicle can either move front or back. The problems would be serious in case of any mishaps including fire. There is a thinking to ban traffic on this road after total remodelling of the building.

The meeting was attended by Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal, SP Manish Karbikar, MCC Commissioner K S Raykar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr C J Betsutmutt, MUDA Commissioner P C Jayanna and others.
