Eight secure hundred percentile in IIM stakes

From Bangalore, Yash Chhabra, who works for a private consulting firm, secured 99.99 percentile.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Chhabra, a mechanical engineering graduate from IIT-Kharagpur, said he was extremely happy with his performance and hoped that he would get into one of the IIMs. “Since I work in a consulting firm, I would like to specialise in finance,” he said.

Keshav Krishnamurthy, a BA student of St Joseph’s College, is another candidate from Bangalore, who secured 99.96 percentile this year.

Krishnamurthy’s score is noteworthy as typically Arts and Humanities graduates have shied away from CAT. This year, of the 2.04 lakh applications received, only 4,300 are from those with arts/humanities background, as opposed to 1.22 lakh applications from engineering graduates. Krishnamurthy said he was aware of the glut of engineers in the test, but he was confident of doing well. This year, eight candidates––all male and engineers––secured 100 percentile.

The CAT website saw considerable downtime due to the rush of aspirants going online to download their scorecards. The website (www.catiim.in) was frequently offline when the results were made available around 10 am, and was inaccessible even during the afternoon. However, the website stabilised by 3 pm and functioned smoothly since then.

This year, 2.04 lakh candidates registered for CAT but 1.86 lakh aspirants appeared for the examination. The results provided overall scores and percentile, along with breakup in the verbal, data interpretation, and quantitative sections.

CAT scores are only one of the criteria, besides academic achievement and work experience, taken into consideration by the IIMs before admitting students. The IIMs at Ahmedabad, Calcutta, Lucknow, Shillong, and Ranchi have already released their shortlists for admissions for the upcoming year, while the remaining six IIMs are expected to come out with their lists in a day or two.
