Aus woman delivers 'miracle baby' during heavy floods

The little boy named Callum Wieland was born yesterday in his Brightview home in the worst-hit Lockyer Valley in Queensland after his mother Kristie went into labour, media reports here said.

Rescue workers could not yesterday reach the woman, who gave birth to Callum at 4.54 pm local time. The baby was delivered by Wieland's husband Andy and a neighbour, while other neighbours looked after their older daughter.

The mother-baby pair was forced to spend the night at their home as weather conditions prevented a rescue helicopter to reach them yesterday, the media reports said.

The helicopter finally airlifted the baby and his mother this morning to hospital.Australian media dubbed the new-born as a "miracle baby", with Sydney's Daily Telegraph saying that he is a "living proof that amongst the despair in Queensland there is hope."
