Sivasailam, 76, was on his way to Sringeri when he complained of chest pain. He was rushed to a hospital in Manipal where doctors declared him brought dead.
He is survived by two daughters Mallika Srinivasan and Jayshree Venkataraman, Directors of Tractors and Farm Equipment (TAFE)Ltd. Sivasailam’s wife Indira Sivasailam predeceased him three years ago.
Philanthropist
A philanthropist, Sivasailam had contributed a lot of money for the welfare of poor and renovation of temples.
TVS Motor Company Chairman and Managing Director Venu Srinivasan and WS Industries Vice-Chairman Murali Venkatraman are his sons-in-law.
Born on August 24, 1934, Sivasailam, considered a giant among industrialists in the south, was the elder son of the late S Anantharamakrishnan, who founded the Amalgamation Group a conglomerate of 43 companies with 12,000 employees. Its operations include automotive component manufacturing, trading and distribution, services and plantations.
Sivasailam, who was trained in management accounting and advanced accountancy for four years in London, was a fellow of the Institute of Directors, London.
He joined the Amalgamation group in 1957 as Comptroller and Treasurer of Addison and Company.
In January 1961, he was appointed general manager of TAFE, one of the top ten tractor manufacturers in the world, and later elevated as chairman and managing director.
He was a recipient of several awards, including the Padmashri.
After graduating in Commerce from the Loyola College here, Sivasailam got trained in management and advanced accountancy in London.
In January 1961, he was appointed as the general manager of tractor major Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE) and seven years later he became the group chairman.
Honours
He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2007 and was conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Literature by the Madurai Kamaraj University and lifetime contribution award by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers in 2008.
He is survived by his two daughters Mallika Srinivasan and Jayshree Venkatraman. Both are directors at TAFE.
