Families of deceased legislators to get pension

The State Legislature on Thursday passed the Karnataka Legislature Salaries, Pensions and Allowances (Amendment) Bill 2010 providing pension to the families of deceased persons who were members of either houses of the Legislature after January 1, 1952.

Piloting the Bill, Law Minister Suresh Kumar said the proposed measure would cost the State exchequer Rs 2.52 crore per year. The Bill was adopted by a voice-vote.

Besides, the Karnataka Municipalities (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to set up Area Councils and Ward Councils in all towns with more than 3 lakh population, and the Karnataka Conferment of Ownership on Mulageni or Volamulageni Tenants Bill, which seeks to give ownership rights to Mulagenidars in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, were also passed in the Assembly.

The Council on Friday passed nine Bills which were passed by the Assembly on Thursday.
