Lustrous tresses that could hypnotise...

Sankranthi festival this year was a memorable one for the women of Hassan city, as the city unit of Karnataka Janapada Parishat and a private channel had organised lustrous tresses contest here on Saturday. More than 50 candidates participated in the event that was being held for the first time in city.

The competitions was conducted in three categories, for girls studying between 7th and 10th standard, from PUC to degree and homemakers. Winners were selected on the basis of the length of the plait, healthiness of the hair and its maintenance and prizes were distributed. Some women though possessed lengthy hair were rejected for poor maintenance. Pramila Chandregowda, Roopa Lokesh, Anitha, Divya and Gorur Pankaja were the judges.

Former CMC president Ambika Ravishankar, who was the chief guest, expressed happiness over organising an unique event on Sankranthi day, which is considered to be a women fest. It is encouraging to observe that they are still retaining the fabric of culture and tradition, which is on the verge of extinct. A large number women participating in the event is a proof of this, she added.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat District Unit president Udayaravi, K G Nagarathna, Poornima Jagadeesh, Rudrappa, Shivanagowda and Pramod were the guests, who distributed prizes to the winners.

Jayaraj of Department of Youth Services of Sports welcomed. Janapada Parishat president Madanagowda was also present. The winners are Mamatha K C , Anushri B D, Meghana D, Suja and Kavya (7th to 10th std ); Geetha U S, Savitha, Usha Kiran, Rachitha G P and Hemalatha B M (PUC to degree category); Mamatha Naganna, Susheela Raju, Radha H T, Asha U R and Rajeshwari B S (homemakers).
