BU to ask BMRCL to realign Metro

In a press release issued by the Bangalore University Registrar, the varsity has said the BMRCL request to handover permanently 5,232 sq mt and temporarily 1466.13 sq mt of land attached to Central College campus be reconsidered by the Metro Rail authorities.

“The cost of permanent area of land to be handed over is approximately Rs 57 crore and for temporary area, it is Rs 16 crore. The Metro Rail project can be realigned on the opposite side of Dr B R Ambedkar Veedhi, adjacent to the court complex and foreground of  Government Arts College, which is vacant at present,” the BU Registrar said.

The Bangalore University further stated that no damage should be caused to the Central College heritage campus, as any step in the furtherance of this would violate provisions of the ‘Protection of Ancient Monuments Act (1948), that the Central College is a part of.

Not aware

When this statement was brought to the notice of BMRCL managing director, N Sivasailam, he said he has not received any request from Bangalore University authorities, over this matter.

“If we receive a request, we will take up the matter with the government and abide by whatever decision it take,” he said.
