Addressing media here on Wednesday, Mahesh demanded the varsity to instead recommend the  Governor H R Bhardwaj to recommend conferring ‘Bharat Ratna’, the highest civilian award of the nation, on the visionary.

On the decision to award the doctorate, Mahesh said ‘It is really comical to think of doing the honour after 71 years of Nalwadi’s death.

If they (Varsity) want to go ahead, let them consider ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhiji, former prime ministers late Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi too for the doctorate.

Moreover, Nalwadi was conferred with a title ‘Rajarshi’ by none other than Mahatma Gandhiji. The doctorate degree would do nothing but belittle the weightage of ‘Rajarshi’.
If the varsity really has concern, they should re-think on the issue.

However, BSP would be taking up the issue with Governor and also Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, said Mahesh.

Constitution Day

As part of forthcoming Republic Day celebrations on January 26, BSP is organising an awareness programme on Indian Constitution, said Mahesh.

Motorcycle rally

A motorcycle rally has been organised on the day. The rally will start from Dr B R Ambedkar’s statue at Town Hall premises, besides informing the gathering about the Constitution.

The rallyists will cleanse the statues, busts and also boards of the associations named after the constitution expert in every locality and conduct awareness programme.

This is imperative in the wake of younger generation being unaware of the significance of Republic Day said Mahesh.

BSP District Unit President G N Devadattha and leader Shivakumar was present.
