The driver of the SUV Ambarai Chandrakanth Kumbara (26) and student Shivashantha Kalyani Kattimani (15) died on the spot.
Two other students Ambarai Bhimashankar (16) and Shambhulinga Gurushanthappa Biradar died when they were being taken to the hospital in Hubli.
A teacher and several students who were seriously injured in the accident have been admitted to the KIMS hospital in Hubli for treatment.
Students of the Government High School of Kamalapur in Aland taluk of Gulbarga district were on their way to Gokarna in two SUVs and a bus.
The lorry was on its way from Ankola to Yellapur when the accident occurred. Police have arrested the lorry driver, Kanakappa Basavaraja Sajjana of Mudhol, and have registered a case in this connection.
