Explaining its functions, Dr S K Shankar, head of the department of Neuropathology, said that actual wiring of the brain can be seen in these images with the help of Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) facility. “The facility can give a finer Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which will be useful to diagnose patients with head injuries, Alzheimer’s disease and other problems. Secondly, it has the facility of EEG (electroencephalogram), which records the electrical activity of the brain,” he said. Although the facility will be used for research, it will also be utilised for the benefit of patients with head injuries, said Dr Shankar.
