'Youth dies in police custody in Shanivarasanthe'

The deceased Shashi (25), son of a labourer Chandraiah, was summoned to the police station in connection with a fight between a certain Vanajakshi and her son Ashok in his village.

Chandraiah alleged that his son Shashi died because of police atrocities. But police sources said that he died after Vanajakshi hit him with a hammer in the station. Enraged villagers pelted stones at the station damaing the windowpanes.

Meanwhile, SP Manjunath Annigeri visited the station and placed Police Sub Inspector D Manjunath for dereliction of duty. He said that action will be iniated against the accused after obtaining the post mortem report.
