Recession sinks in

Gandhinagar Grapevine

Recession has hit Gandhinagar pretty hard. So much so that people have begun celebrating even 25 days of the successful running of a film. Case in point: Shivamani's Jhossh. Although the young group of actors raised the Jhossh war-cry every now and then, it was the seniors’ expression that told the tale. Indeed, Shivamani termed completing 25 days as an achievement in the backdrop of recession and of course, the IPL. But the entire team is elated that the film has been well received. On behalf of the Jhossh gang, Alok read out messages and reviews the team received for their film on an Orkut community as well as on Facebook.  Producer S V Babu, who seemed happy admitted that the film is yet to bring in profits. With theatres extending the number of screenings and houseful shows at PVR, the producer was happy to have realised his dream. Babu intends to release the film in B and C centres after the completion of 50 days.

On the audio side, the phenomenal increase in sales has kept Mohan of Anand Audio happy. Shivamani also recalled somebody describing Jhossh as Kannada's Rang De Basanti (RDB).

RDB it is not, but Jhossh has carried its message very effectively, it must be said. Oh yes, all the good work means another film for Shivamani and his bunch of Jhossh kids, which will hit the floors in August.

Poking fun

Meet this post graduate in Kannada literature. His conversation is peppered with the likes of Pampa, Kuvempu, Tejaswi, Lankesh, Devanur Mahadeva and others. He is unemployed but has a sensitive mind. She is a film buff, with modern sensibilities and yes a strong outlook. She marries this literature student... This is a gist of Sridhar’s new film. He has woven a political satire around the lives of these two, essayed by Yash and Haripriya, for Sumana ittur's new film Kallara anthe. Sumana spent close to three months preparing for this film, after getting positive feedback after Slum Bala, her debut.

Mirroring the current state of affairs, Sridhar pokes fun at all the sections of society,
including those housed in Vidhana Soudha.

V Manohar has composed four songs for the film. The shooting is slated in Bangalore and Madikeri across two months or so. The film may be released by August or September. Sundarnath Suvarna is the cinematographer.

The in-house police officer of Kannada films, Kishore, is a cop here too.

Sridhar made it clear that the characters may have their references but were not etched out to upset anyone.
