Maharashtra women win artistic team title

Hosts Karnataka had two gymnasts in the fray in Saumi Wagoji and Divya CS. Both failed to make much of an impression as Divya did not even find herself in the top 10 in any of the four apparatuses while Saumi stood eighth in the Balancing Beam apparatus.

The only consolation for Karnataka was Saumi and Divya qualifying for the all-round individual championship in the WAG category. Saumi qualifying with 34.7 points while Divya sneaked through with 26 points.

Rucha Divekar of Maharashtra with 12.200 points stood on top of the ladder in the Floor Exercises pipping her state-mate Shravani Raut to the second position. Roles were reversed in the Uneven Bars apparatus as Raut edged ahead of Divekar with 9.950 points.

Rucha Divekar also stood second in the Table Vault apparatus where Shravani Raut was placed fifth. Raut then finished second in the Balancing Beam as the duo contributed its might in Maharashtra claiming the team championship in women’s artistic gymnastics.

Results: WAG: Maharashtra - 217.70 points, 1; WB - 200.55, 2; AP - 181.35, 3; Punjab - 167.15, 4; UP - 151.95, 5.
