<p>Speaking at a workshop organised jointly by the District Health and Family Welfare Department, District AIDS Control Unit and other institutions here recently , Dr Mahadev said Chamarajanagar is number one in having the maximum of HIV infected and it has increased by oe per cent. <br /><br />The AIDS can be checked if counselling centres are opened in the city. The infected should not hesitate to visit the counselling centres, he added.<br /><br />Chaithanya Network’s Bhagya said that there is a need to take up programmes so that the lives of people infected can be made better.<br /><br />An awareness drive should be taken up to inform people that how the disease spreads from one person to another. The network was trying to bring about the change in the society by education people about the AIDS, she noted. ICTC’s Personal Advisor Mahadevaswamy said that District AIDS Control Units and non-governmental organisations need to join hands to promote awareness on the AIDS. <br /><br />Programmes are being undertaken by Myrada, Holycross Hospital and Chaithanya Network, he added.
