80,000 Bihar lawyers stay away from work for two days

"Around 80,000 lawyers across the state stayed away from participating in the proceedings of the courts," Bihar state council evening courts special committee chairman Rajendra Prasad Singh said here.

Holding of such courts, introduced by Patna High Court, was not possible in the state due to the lack of necessary infrastructure, he said.

The decision to cease work was taken at an emergency meeting of the committee on Saturday.

"The power supply across the state is erratic and it increases the problems of lawyers in participation of evening proceedings," he said.

One evening court each in 30 of the 38 districts of Bihar is functional since December 6, 2010.
