Rashida Begum (45) and her daughter Naznin (20) were apprehended by a team of Crime Branch's Narcotics wing from Nandnagri yesterday while they were boarding a bus to Mori Gate, a senior police official said.

"We received a tip-off that a mother-daughter duo were involved in drug peddling and further investigations led to their arrest," DCP (Crime) Ashok Chand said.

The contraband was to be send to Mumbai, he said, adding that a case under relevant sections of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against them.

Rasida told police she is a divorcee and her former husband Chand Qureshi is a drug trafficker in Mumbai.

"After their separation, she along with Naznin started trafficking drugs to earn livelihood.

The seized consignment was to be taken to Mumbai by bus via Delhi, Udaipur and Ahmedabad," Chand said.

In a separate case, the Crime Branch on Sunday arrested 24-year-old Saharuddin from Connaught Place when he came there to allegedly sell 450 gm heroin to vagabonds roaming in the area, police said, adding that he hails from Kishanganj in Bihar.
