Hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Sirja’s father Hassan Sahib, a resident of Udupi, the division bench comprising Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice K V Keshavanarayana held that the detention of Siraj was illegal and he should be released.
Siraj, an associate of underworld don Ravi Pujari, was arrested in connection with the attacks on October 14, 2010, by the City Crime Branch Police.
However, he was out on bail in both cases. But he was detained by the police after the Bantwal court sought his body warrant.
Sahib in his petition sought Siraj’s release stating that his detention was illegal and against personal liberty.
