41 special stations to check illicit liquor, spirit: SP

'Stations will come up in 176 taluks'

“If police, excise department work in co-ordination in checking illicit liquor, arrack and spirit, then we can give more than Rs 7,500 crore to the state exchequer,” opined Excise (Enforcement) and Lottery (Prevention) SP M A Soudhagar.

Speaking to presspersons after the inauguration of Excise (Enforcement) and Lottery (Prevention) police station at Kannandabane in Madikeri, he said “when arrack was banned in the state, the revenue of excise was Rs 4000 crore. However, after Excise (Enforcement) and Lottery (Prevention) came into force, the revenue was increased to Rs 5,600 crore. We have already collected 5,739 crore revenue.”

Excise (Enforcement) and Lottery (Prevention) Squad has so far seized Rs 12 crore worth spirit, illicit liquor and related vehicles. Soudhagar said that the State government has issued permission for 41 police stations in the entire state. 30 to 35 stations have already started functioning. 1,800 personnel have been appointed to these stations. Special stations will be set up in 176 taluks in the state. Since the available personnel are being deployed in coastal police force, and police stations, it has been decided to set up 41 stations. Special station will be set up in Belgaum and Gokak.

One IGP, 2 SPs, 6 DySPs will be functioning under this division. Every district will be provided 32 civil and 30 DAR police personnel.

“There has been drastic increase in the revenue after setting up of special stations.

There is a need for police and excise department to work in co-ordination,” he added.

SP (in charge) Bhagavandas also spoke. Mysore zone Excise (Enforcement) and Lottery (Prevention) Squad DySP S L Upalavankar, Madikeri station sub inspector N Mahesh and others were present.

Public will be given awards for providing information on arrack, illicit liquor and spirit and other unlawful activities.

Speaking to presspersons, Excise (Enforcement) and Lottery (Prevention) SP M A Soudhagar said the names will be kept in secret. They will be given awards after seizing the property.
