The situation turned tense as some of the protesters tried to barge into the hospital. A few window panes were broken during the incident.

Twenty-one-year-old Shanthamma, a resident of Agar village on Sarjapura Road, who was pregnant with her first child, was admitted to the Hospital on Saturday. She gave birth to a baby boy and died on Sunday.

Shanthamma’s relatives had planned their protest on Sunday, but withdrew their decision after the police pacified them. However, they came to the hospital on Monday with more than 200 people and staged the protest. They demanded stern action against the hospital authorities. The Labour Minister B N Bache Gowda visited the hospital, declared a compensation of Rs one lakh and promised action against the erring staff. A KSRP platoon has been deployed near the hospital.
