The government would not allow quarrying in ten km radius of the dam site, he added.
He was addressing the activists of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) who came on two-wheelers in the city, urging the government to ban quarrying near the dam.

Bommai said he had received complaints from the public about the quarrying near the reservoir. The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police are instructed to end the quarrying in the region. The government was committed to supply drinking water to people as well as impetus on the pending irrigation projects in the district.

On demand for the  Corps of Detective (CoD) probe into the quarrying as sought by KRRS, the minister said he would discuss the matter with Home and district in-charge minister R Ashoka and Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

Bommai said the government has decided to nominate four eminent ryot leaders for the irrigation advisory committees of Krishna and Cauvery.
