Last Updated 12 February 2011, 17:31 IST

Not only did Preeti fail in her attempt to submit her petition to the chief minister, she also lost her job. She was sacked for “breaching security” though the official reason advanced for the sacking was that she did not take interest in “teaching activities”.

Preeti Pandey, a “shiksha mitra” (ad-hoc) at a primary school had on February 6 approached Mayawati to submit a petition.

“My sister-in-law is being harassed by her husband.... she had asked me to give her petition to the chief minister,” Preeti said. “The petition was snatched from my hand by an official accompanying Mayawati and now I have been sacked.... I was told that I had breached security,” Preeti said on Saturday.

District education officials said Preeti had been sacked as she “never took interest in teaching activities” but admitted unofficially that the it was to do with her attempt to reach out to Mayawati.
