Last Updated 13 February 2011, 16:59 IST

He was speaking at an interaction programme organised as part of Zilla Yuva Samavesha and presentation of district youth award ceremony, organised jointly by the Nehru Yuva Kendra and the National Service Scheme (NSS) at Fine Arts college auditorium here.

The movements, protests which basically display the anger or disagreement of people to certain issues and decisions, play an important role in a democracy. But, the passion to fight the wrong policies or exploitation of government or institutions has slowly declined.

The MP was replying to a query from a youth Praveen who opined that people were deprived of their rights everywhere and asked whether it would lead to violence in future.

In his reply, the MP said: “In the past, people got down to streets to protest a hike in bus fare, school and college fees or even hike in prices of a humble Idli, which served as breakfast for many. Now, people decry the idea of movement, thinking that their community leader is running government, and they wouldn’t want to embarrass him,” the MP said.

Vishwanath, in reply to another question said he would discuss with airport officials  in Chennai on any chances of starting parasailing at Mysore airport for adventure sports.

On the occasion, Minister Ramdas asked the youth to develop sense of patriotism. He asked the people of all party affiliations unite when it came to issues such as Kashmir.

Earlier, C Basavegowda, Chairman of the MDCC Bank presented the youth award to Jyothi of Chaithanya Grameena Samsthe of Periyapatna and P Mahadevaswamy of Navabharatha Yuvajana Sangha of Kalale (Nanjangud taluk). The Abhyudaya Mahila Samaja bagged the Yuva Mandali award.
