Building owners plea for storm water drains on K S Rao Road

The owners of buildings and shops on K S Rao Road in the city alleged that “the concretisation of K S Rao Road has been done in a totally unscientific manner from the outset.”

In a complaint written to the executive engineer of Mangalore City Corporation, owners blamed that the Corporation has filled up all the storm water drains, that were there all the while, since more than 50 years. “Shop owners had regularly been questioning engineers and corporators at site meetings regarding the unscientific approach of the concretisation,” they stated adding that the very same drains have been totally covered with concrete and no alternate provisions were made for the rain water drains.

They pointed out that since there is no proper bus bay facility, the entire K S Rao Road gets blocked whenever buses stop for the passengers on the stretch. Further, there is no provisions for the new buildings to connect their drainage.

They alleged that the corporation had planned the concretisation on the road unilaterally without consulting buildings and shops owners. Since all the storm water drains have been closed, water will gush into shops on the road, owners complained adding that the problem arose because of the unscientific approach adopted by the corporation in concretising the road.
