Addressing the meeting held with the Police, Excise and the Revenue departments officials on Tuesday with regard to stopping illicit liquor production in the district, DC said that officials concerned must take action against those who indulge in manufacturing illicit liquor in the district.

Looking at the statistics of raids conducted by police and the excise department on illicit liquor production issue, he said that officials will have to keep vigil on an individual on whom maximum number of cases have been filed or the village where illicit liquor production is rampant.

“We have to learn lessons from the experience of other states. Several deaths had occurred in other states and districts due to hooch and other forms of illicit liquor. This should not happen in Kodagu,” he said.

District Superintendent of Police Shiva Prasad said that police department is prepared to render all its support to the excise department in this issue. He said that police department had conducted 58 raids and booked cases against 40 persons.

He pointed that brewing is going on in non residential remote areas. Apart from this since there are cases of Ganja cultivation too coming to light, both the issues need to be taken seriously. Excise Deputy Commissioner Jayaram , DySP J D Prakash and others were present.
