TN, State to unveil statues

The reciprocal gestures are aimed at improving ties between the two states locked in bitter inter-state water disputes.

Announcing this in the Assembly on Tuesday, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said he would unveil the statue of Tiruvalluvar, author of ancient Tamil treatise Tirukkural, in Bangalore on August 9 while his Karnataka counterpart B S Yeddyurappa would inaugurate Kannada poet Sarvagna’s statue here on August 13.

He expressed confidence that the initiatives “aimed at honouring the two scholars will help in bettering relations between the people of the two state as well as governments.”

The move follows “frequent written communication between me and Yeddyurappa as well as our recent meeting (in Chennai).
