The abducted  Ravella Vineel Krishna, 2005 batch IAS officer,  is  younger son of  Ravella Rambabu, a retired deputy general manager (Accounts) of  BHEL in Hyderabad.

According to Rambabu, he  came to know that his son was abducted by  the Andhra Orissa Border Special Zone Committee (AOBSZC) guerillas while  returning from an official  programme in Gumma Block of tribal-dominated Malkangiri district, through TV news channels.

Vineel had a friend in the tribal area where he had taken up several development and welfare activities, a visibly shaken Rambabu said before leaving for Malkangiri with with his wife Kusuma.

R Vineel Krishna, who was born and brought up in Hyderabad,  completed B Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras in 2001. He topped in UPSC from Andhra Pradesh and bagged 28th rank in IAS, said his friend Gourav Uppal,  Vijayawada Joint Collector.

“Vineel was very excited about his Orissa assignment’, he added.
Although this is the first kidnap of an IAS officer in Orissa, five IAS officers in Andhra Pradesh were kidnapped in 1987 by then PWG and released only after some hard core Maoist activists were let free from jail.

The IAS officers led by then social welfare secretary and legendary human rights activist S R Sankaran were kidnapped   when they went to inspect a scheduled tribe hostel in remote village of Gurthedu in East Godavari. They  were released after three days.
