LPG dealers swamped with customer data

Last Updated 18 February 2011, 18:58 IST

This reporter visited three LPG distribution centres and in all the three the papers/ forms/photo copies had piled up.

At K K Indane Enterprises in Someshwarapura, supplies cylinders to 20,000 connections. Proprietor K Srinivas said around 12,000 people have submitted the documents. The documents with and without ration cards are segregated.

Manav Enterprises, Mosque Road, caters to 25,000 customers. So far 11,900 customers have submitted the documents. Arun, the proprietor, has entered the RRS numbers and ration card details in a book which he will submit to the government.

A common grouse of the distributors is that their routine business is affected due to the additional work. Viswambhara of Vishwambhara Enterprises on Assaye Road said he had to hire people to handle the crowd. “People had too many doubts to be clarified. So, our routine work was affected”, he said.

B K Srinivas of KK Enterprises said Food & Civil Supplies Minister Shobha Karandlaje’s statements created confusion among the customers. “She said LPG supply will not be cut. Later, in an advertisement she said the opposite”, he pointed out.

Peculiar problem

The LPG distributors are coming across consumers who have some intersting problems. A customer approached KK Indane Enterprises saying he can’t give the RR number because the electricity bills are with his brother-in-law. Both share the same house. While the electricity bill is taken care by his brother-in-law, he takes care of LPG. Both are not in talking terms and so he couldn’t get a copy of the electricity bill!
