In fact, River Cauvery is flowing above the danger-level. A person was killed when a tree fell on him at Kongettira estate near Kathalekadu in Maragodu in Madikeri taluk. The deceased has been identified as Mahesh (24) of Nanjangudu. Another person, M Mahesh suffered injuries in the mishap.

Talacauvery received highest amont of rainfall (325 mm) on Wednesday followed by Bhagamnadala which received 300 mm rainfall. Bhagamandala is inundated and is cut off from the mainland. People are ferried to safer places as paddy fields and low laying areas have been flooded.

As river Cauvery is overflowing, three families in Karadigodu have been shifted to safer places. Keerehole is inundated in Gonikoppal. More than 20 families have been shifted to gruel centres (ganji kendra). Owing to the increase in water-level in Lakshamanatheertha river, Nittur-Balele road too has been cut off.

Owing to the caving in of a compound wall, the movement of vehicles have been disrupted between Madikeri-Chettalli road. Several trees and electric poles have been uprooted. Two houses have been damaged in Madikeri. The inflow of water to Harangi reservoir was 6,000 cusecs on Wednesday. The water in the reservoir has increased to 2,840.33 feet.

Highest rain

In the last 24 hours, the district received 118.58 mm rainfall. Last year, on this day, the district had received on ly 1.42 mm rainfall!

From January till date, the district has received 1,218.22 mm rainfall. Last year, it was 928.07 mm. Madikeri has received 144.15 mm rainfall. From January till date, Madikeri taluk has received 1,667.41 mm rainfall. Last year, it was 1,323.53 mm. Virajpet has received 141.23 mm rainfall on Wednesday. Last year on the corresponding date, it was 1.52 mm. From January till date, the taluk has received 1,245.87 mm rainfall. Last year it was 844.53 mm. Somwarpet taluk has received 70.35 mm rainfall. Last year on this day, it was 0.13 mm. Rains reported in other hoblis are as follows: Madikeri Kasava - 128.20 mm, Napoklu - 96.80 mm, Sampaje - 51.60 mm, Bhagamandala - 300 mm, Talacauvery - 325 mm, Virajpet kasaba - 98.20 mm, Hudijeri - 58 mm, Srimangala - 178.40 mm, Ponnampet - 205.60 mm, Ammathi - 130.20 mm, Balele - 122.50 mm, Kutta - 112.50 mm, Siddapura - 58 mm, Gonikoppal - 85 mm, Somwarpet Kasaba - 69.20 mm, Shanivarasanthe - 71.60 mm, Shanthalli - 134.40 mm, Kodlipete - 81.20 mm, Kushalnagar - 19.40 mm and Suntikoppa - 46.30 mm rainfall.

Loss

As many as 18 houses have been partially damaged in the last 24 hours in the district. The estimated loss has been put at Rs 1.49 lakh. This includes 10 houses in Virajpet taluk, two houses in Somwarpet taluk and six houses in Madikeri taluk.
