Cong welcomes JNNURM scheme to Mangalore

 Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, D’Souza said that water supply schemes, roads, underground drainage, tourism projects, parks, waste management plants, bus shelters and city beautification programmes can be undertaken through the JNNURM scheme in 5 years. The scheme which is being implemented by the Union Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Poverty Eradication is aimed at bringing up poor people in the urban areas along with developing the infrastructure, he added.

D’Souza urged the MCC and Mangalore Urban Development Authority to prepare an integrated action plan for the overall development of the city utilising the fund.

D’Souza also congratulated Union Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Poverty Eradication, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Minister for Law Veerappa Moily, Congress leaders Oscar Fernandes and B Janardhana Poojary for sanctioning the JNNURM scheme for MCC.
