Filing returns made easy

90 counters at Palace Grounds open till July 31

This year, however, the Income Tax Department has made the process much simpler, particularly for the salaried class. The Department is hosting an I-T fair of sorts at Gayathri Vihar in Palace Grounds; people can file their tax returns here from Thursday till July 31.

The Department has set up 90 counters to accept I-T returns. “We’ve made special arrangements this year. On previous occasions, we were accepting the returns at small places. This year, we have decided to accept the returns under one roof. So we chose Gayathri Vihar. The other benefit here is that people will not face parking problems in the sprawling Palace Grounds,” I-T Commissioner P K Prasad told Deccan Herald.

However, the I-T department has clarified that salary returns will not be accepted in any other office during the 16-day fair.

Fifteen computers with internet connections have been set up at the venue. If a tax-payer forgets his or her Permanent Account Number (PAN) number, officials can trace it using the applicant’s name.

“We are providing e-filing counters with internet connectivity, supply of forms, and PAN Verification. Attention has also been given to provide adequate public amenities. There will be enough staff to help the people file their returns early,” said B Arulappa, additional commissioner of income tax.

Those filing their returns will also not have to look for restaurants in the vicinity; the I-T department has tied up with a caterer, who will set up a temporary cafeteria at the venue.

The Income-tax Department will be opening Special Counters for receipt of returns pertaining to Pensioners/ Salaried class at Gayatri Vihar Palace Grounds, Mekhri Circle, Bangalore (entrance between Cauvery Petrol Bunk & Mekhri Circle) from July 16 to 31 (including Saturdays and Sundays) between 9:30 am and 5 pm.
