Police seek public help to act against cricket betting

“Persons who give information leading to successful raids and detection of cricket betting cases will be suitably rewarded,” said the police commissioner Shankar Bidari in a press statement.

Cricket betting is an offence punishable under The Karnataka Police Act.  In view of the World Cup matches and the likelihood of an increase in betting, strict instructions have been issued to all police stations in Bangalore City to collect information regarding the betting activities and conduct raids. 

Members of the public, who may come across information regarding cricket betting being organised by any individual, company or firm, are requested to furnish the information to the local police station or to the city police control room, added the commissioner.

Six arrested

The K S Layout police arrested six persons on Wednesday night on the charge of indulging in cricket betting and recovered laptop, a television set, seven cellphones, a note book and Rs 1,800 from them.

Gaurav Roy (22), Sanjeev Ranjan (23), Manav (21), Amrindar Singh (25) all resident of KS Layout second stage, Sumanth (23) and Avi Singh (25) both from J P Nagar are the arrested.

On a tip-off, the police raided a house at Rajyotsavanagar in K S Layout and arrested the suspects. They were collecting money over phones when Pakistan and Kenya match was on.
