Food turns them on

sumptuous Members of the England Cricket Team dig into an array of dishes.

Metrolife hung around at the hotel and spotted the team come down for a rather early dinner at 7 pm. Food was aplenty. There was Chinese, Thai, Andhra and Indian dishes, especially variants in chicken, pastas, noodles...you name it. The menu had an international flavour to it.

The cricketers were all casually dressed in shorts and a tee complete with a cap. They had assorted stuff on their plate.. naan, chicken tikka, noodles, pasta... all of them had huge appetite. “We love Indian food complete with all the spice. We’re helping ourselves to as much variety as possible,” said Ajmal as he walked off to get some more food. Ravi Bopara said, “I am not new to Indian food. It’s made at home all the time. I savour the other cuisines. Chinese, pastas... are among my favourites.”

The Englishmen didn’t seem to have very different tastes. They recalled the names of almost all the Indian chicken curries and dishes they ate during their stay and travel in India. “I like the chicken tikka. They say the spice is unbearable but I simply can’t do without the spice,” said Matt Prior.

Paul Collingwood, struggling to get the rather long string of noodles into his mouth said, “Chicken Rogan Josh is what I order most of the time when I am in India.” Stuart Broad, who seemed to be a light eater said, “I literally feast on anything to do with chicken. It’s irresistible. I love Indian food in any form,” he sums up.
