Two Jammu and Kashmir nationals held with 62kg hashish in Mumbai

Acting on a tip off, a trap was laid near Hotel Sagar at Vasai area of neighbouring Thane district on Saturday at around 1.50 am and a truck with registration number JK-02-S-9963 was intercepted.

Upon searching the truck, 23 packets of hashish concealed in the cavities specially made in the rear side of the driver's cabin were discovered, Yashodhan Wange (Zonal Director, NCB) told PTI.

A total 62kg hashish was recovered, Wange said adding that "the duo Mangal Bhagat (40) and Vijay Kumar (45) hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, who were in the vehicle, were arrested under the provisions of Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985."

The accused were produced before a court which remanded them in NCB Custody till March 10.

NCB suspects that the entire quantity was meant for Mumbai and is trying to ascertain the identity of the buyer, the officials said.

The domestic market value of the contraband is Rs 1.25 crore while its international market value is Rs 3.10 crore, Wange said adding further probe is on.
