Moulding minds through science models

Fisheries Minister Krishna J Palemar, IT&BT department principal secretary Ashok Kumar Manoli and former Isro chairman U R Rao with writers who received awards at the National Science Day 2011 celebrations in the City on Monday.

The Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA) chose the occasion to award prizes to eminent writers who have contributed to agriculture and science. The event featured a science model exhibition organised to popularise science among children.

Earlier, the Science Day was inaugurated by Minister Krishna J Palemar, in the presence of Principal Secretary for IT&BT Ashok Kumar Manoli and KSTA president Prof U R Rao.

The Science Day is celebrated every year to commemorate Sir C V Raman’s Nobel Prize. It was on February 28, 1928, that Sir C V Raman announced to the world the ‘Raman effect’, a discovery which earned him the coveted Nobel Prize in 1930.
